The awards ceremony in Sydney, scheduled for December 17, was canceled after a horrific shooting that shocked the entire city.
The 2025 GQ Australia Men of the Year Awards were supposed to take place at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, but organizers said the event would not go ahead.
However, they sent their thoughts and best regards to the victims, their families and all those affected by this tragedy.
The shooting also caused the cancellation of the Sydney premiere of Sam Worthington’s new film, Avatar: Fire and Ash.
The red carpet event was scheduled to feature the actor, director James Cameron and other stars, but organizers said it would not take place out of respect for those injured in the attack.
Police said the two men, Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid Akram, 50, opened fire near Bondi Pavilion.
They used powerful weapons and targeted residents in the area. Additionally, 14 people died at the scene and two others died later in hospital, including one of the shooters.
Another 42 people were taken to hospital, including four children, as five people are in serious condition, including two police officers.
For those who don’t know, organizers have yet to announce new dates for the GQ Awards or the film premiere.
Sydney mourns the victims and tries to recover from the shocking events that shook the city.
