Tarbela’s spills opened to relieve water pressure

The Tarbela dam spits were opened on Saturday evening after the water level at the dam reaches 1,546 feet – 96% of its capacity.

With the opening of the spills, the water flow from the Industry river has increased to nearly 250,000 pickers. Given the increase in flow, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) advised residents of the adjacent areas to avoid going near the water canals.

Before opening the spills, the NDMA informed all the relevant departments. He also urged residents of the low zones to remain cautious and to cooperate with the local administration.

According to a press release published by the PUNJAB Punjab province of disaster management (PDMA) on Saturday, the water level at the Mangla dam was 1,205.25 feet and it was 63%full.

In the Industry river, there was a low -level flood at the Chashma dam, while the flow in Tarbela, Kalabagh, Taunsa, Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri was normal. At the key points of the rivers Jhelum, Sutlej and Kabul, the water flow was normal.

In important places on the Chenab river and its adjacent streams, the water flow was normal. In the Ravi river, the water flow was normal at the main points, while its adjacent pasting zerlah maintained a low level flood.

There was no water flow in the main hill torrents in the Koh-E-Suleman region of the Dera Ghazi Khan division. The director general of the PDMA urged citizens to take precautionary measures during the monsoon season.

Article 144 was imposed around rivers, canals and streams.

The authority advised people not to swim in rivers, canals or ponds in any case, added the press release.
