Friday evening, one of the first surprising upheavals of the university football season occurred Friday evening while the school of the Subdivision of the Football Championship (FCS) Tarleton State defeated the army, 30-27.
The Texans Brad Larson botter nailed a 37 yards basket on the second possession of double extensions to give his school the huge victory. This is only the second victory for Tarleton State against an FBS opponent.

“Our guys have played their hearts,” said Tarleton’s state coach Todd Whitten, via the school website. “I don’t have the words to tell you how proud I am of these guys. They are simply exceptional. Our coaches had an excellent match plan. It is an excellent victory for our program.
“We have not played very well against the teams (in FBS) in recent years and (Army) has a good team. They were 12-2 a year ago. It is an exceptional day for our football program, our university and all the people involved.”
The army won the American Athletic Conference last year and independence.
The Black Knights suffered an injury in the last moments of the regulation.

The quarter-arrier Dewayne Coleman left the match with 57 seconds to play after a race. The quarter-backing of the Hellums Cale save took over and put the army as a goal on the ground, but Dawson Jones missed the attempted goal of the field.
The two teams made their first attempts at goals on the ground in overtime.
The quarters of the Texans Victor Gabalis achieved 16 out of 30 for 152 yards and a touchdown. Caleb Lewis and Tre Page III each worked for a touch on the ground. Lewis had 107 yards on the ground and page had 89 yards.

Coleman directed the army with 100 yards on the ground and a precipitated touch. He had 129 yards by the pass but also launched two interceptions.
