- Telegram adds Xai’s Grok chatbot to its application
- Grok will be integrated into cat features such as the search bar and pinned cats
- The agreement has a telegram to pay XAI $ 300 million to be part of the application
Telegram messages will have an additional sarcastic presence now, thanks to an agreement concluded by the messaging application to bring the XAI Grok chatbot to its platform.
XAI’s flagship chatbot is known for a Snark approach – and sometimes disadvantaged – user interactions. This attitude will now be available for all users, having previously been limited to certain premium telegram users.
The CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov, shared a video on X showing how users can pin Grok at the top of the cats, invoke it from the search bar and use it to do all kinds of activities; writing messages and the summary of group discussions with the creation of stickers, the response to anecdotes and even the moderator service in community groups.
The company AI d’Elon Musk has signed an agreement with Telegram to integrate Grok as a functionality on the platform, paying $ 300 million for the privilege. Telegram also obtains 50% of income from all Grok subscriptions purchased via the application, which could transform this into one of the most lucrative crossovers in the history of the chatbot.
🔥 This summer, telegram users will have access to the best AI technology on the market. @elonmusk and I have accepted a 1 year partnership to bring @Grok from Xai to our users of Billion + and integrate it into all Telegram applications 🤝💪 This also reinforces the financial of Telegram… Pic.twitter.com/zpk550May 28, 2025
Grok at work
If all this seems vaguely familiar, it is because it looks a lot like Meta’s strategy for Meta IA. The AI assistant is part of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp in a similar way to Grok in Telegram. Grok serves as a Telegram response to Meta IA, encouraging people to stay on the platform rather than looking elsewhere for a source of AI.
The $ 300 million paid by XAI may seem exaggerated, but that makes sense when you consider what XAI comes out. Telegram is one of the most used messaging applications on the planet. Even obtaining a fraction of the more than 900 million users of monthly active telegrams to try Grok would be a massive boon for the chatbot. And that does not even consider the value of the data that Grok will obtain Telegram users. It is a massive interaction data basin in real time, which could fuel the development of Grok in a way that XAI is impatient to continue.
Since the real power of AI data comes from how real people interact, $ 300 million could end up being a good deal. Grok can learn a lot from what hundreds of millions of people ask, how they explain things and what tone they use, depending on whether they are happy, crazy, attractive or confused. XAI now has a seat on the line at the front of this data tuhosis.
Naturally, the integration of Grok will increase some eyebrows when the confidentiality questions, the ownership of the data and the way our data is used are raised. Neither XAI nor Telegram have provided a lot of details on how Grok will manage user data or if one of this data will be used to form the model more, which must assume will be the case.
Grok can become the useful assistant he has presented as, or it could be another feature that Google Google people can deactivate, just like Meta AI. There is also the question of moderation.
Durov has shown how Grok could help clean spam group cats, but Grok’s tone would probably come up against a group of telegrams discussing sensitive issues, and things could be wrong if Grok badly interprets the context in an animated argument.
