Lahore:

The tensions between the legislators of the Treasury and the opposition to the Assembly of Punjab degenerated following an alleged attack by an MPA of the opposition on a member of the Treasury, and the aggression of reprisals of the private guards of the legislators of the Treasury on the AMP of the opposition.

While the procedure of the Chamber began under the presidency of the acting speaker, Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channer, the two parties seemed united to call him the darkest day, although everyone had framed the events differently. The treasure blamed the attack on the opposition, while the opposition underlined the aggression by private guards of the treasury legislators.

While the Treasury benches qualified opposition actions as a continuation of the incidents of May 9 at the Punjab Assembly, the opposition also held the treasure responsible for the creation of chaos and panic thanks to the use of private guards.

The deputy chief of the opposition, Muhammad Moeenudin Riaz, demanded that the acting speaker Channer immediately suspends Khalid Hassan Riaz of PMLN, records a FIR against the private guards who attacked the opposition while using an abusive language and suspend the security director of the Assembly for having failed to prevent the entry of the guards in the first.

Provincial Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said that the Treasury Hassan Riaz MPA was addressed to the chair when opposition legislators began to taunt him, then attacked him.

However, he admitted that the incident inside the media room was to be investigated. But he quickly added that if a FIR was to be recorded against those who would have attacked the opposition, then an IFR should also be deposited against the AMPs of the opposition which created anarchy inside and outside the Chambers of the Assembly.

In the game of blame, the opposition seemed to have a slight advantage over the treasure, building its case on the attack of the private guards and the suspension of its MPA, Sheikh Imtiaz, for having simply pointed the quorum.

Although the legislators of the Treasury have repeatedly sentenced the attack on the opposition legislator Khalid Nisar Dogar against Hassan Riaz of the Treasury and the alleged abusive language used by the Opposition Sheikh Imtiaz while addressing the Concerteer by interim Channer, the opposition argued that the question was part of the legislators. They asked how individuals could be allowed to attack the AMP.

The opposition also rejected the assertion that MPA Sheikh Imtiaz used abusive language. They said the fight started when Hassan Riaz of PMLN first used an abusive language. However, the acting speaker, Channer, assured the House that a strict punishment would be granted if the participation of individuals in the attack was proven.

The Treasury Legislator, Riaz, boycotted the procedure of the House after Mian Ijaz Shafi of the opposition was appointed member of the committee trained to investigate the attack of private members. He also demanded the Shafi suspension, saying that he was the real cause of the fight.

Meanwhile, the legislative of the Treasury Amina Perveen raised concerns concerning the delayed service of the Challans of traffic. She said people received obsolete Challans at home instead of arriving on time.

Minister Rehman recognized the issue but assured that improvements were made. “We started sending e-chalans via WhatsApp and SMS with good addresses. There are a lot of challenges, but they will soon be resolved.”

Various resolutions have been adopted, including one presented by the opposition legislator Ahmar Rasheed Bhatti, paying tribute to the famous poet Punjabi, the late Tajamal Kaleem, as well as a request to rename a higher secondary school of the Government boys in Chonia in her honor.

After discussing articles on the agenda, the house was adjourned to meet again on July 30 at 2 p.m.
