Di Khan:
After the tragic murder of seven people by unidentified terrorists in the Kurram district, the main road to Thall-Pachinar was closed for all types of traffic by the authorities.
The announcement was made through a press release published by Anjuman Hussainia Parachinar. The press release said that in the wake of yesterday’s incident, all the movements along the road to Thall – Parachinarius were suspended. The press release also advised travelers to avoid unnecessary trips for the moment and to exercise extreme caution.
We can recall that in August, land access to the Kyber-Pakhtunkhwa Kurram tribal district was finally restored after a nine-month suspension. The main road, closed in October 2023 due to sectarian violence, was partially reopened in strict security protocols, offering a certain relief to the residents of Parachinar.
The closure was imposed as a result of attacks against vehicles carrying pilgrims and incidents of subsequent reprisals which increased tensions in the region. Consequently, the authorities had sealed the central road, leading to a serious shortage of essential goods and failing hundreds of students and residents in other cities.
In an effort to alleviate the crisis during the blockade, the government launched a limited helicopter service, which has proven to be insufficient to meet the needs of the population.
Since the reopening, 20 to 22 passenger vehicles have reached the parachinaire daily.
Government sources have said that the situation has improved following the December 2024 peace agreement and the successful tribal jirgas that followed.
On Wednesday, at least seven people were killed when unidentified armed men attacked a passenger vehicle in Lower Kurram.
