Islamabad:
The National Highway Authority (NHA) informed the Standing Communications Committee of the National Assembly according to which the acquisition of land for the M-6 Sukkur-Hyderabad project was to start in a month.
The M-6 project should start in April 2026, with financing from the Islamic Development Bank (BID). The NHA told the committee that he had asked for the approval of the bank’s public procurement in advance, adding that he would officially write to the Sindh government to initiate land acquisition procedures.
The committee, which met Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani here in the president, examined a range of crucial infrastructure projects aimed at improving national connectivity and road safety. The meeting also examined the ministry’s responses to its previous recommendations.
The committee expressed dissatisfaction with the absence of the Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and issued a severe warning that a repeated non-assistance would be brought before the Chamber and Privilege Committee for the necessary measures.
Participants expressed concerns about the third increase in the NHA toll rate in a short period of time, saying that the increase seemed to contradict the NHA rate review policy every three years. The committee asked the NHA to provide detailed justification at the next meeting.
The Inspector General (IG) of the motorway police informed the Legal Framework Committee under which business was recorded against motorists, exceeding the speed limit of 150 kilometers per hour on motorways.
