The acquisition of the lands of the Naulong dam to cost RS1.95b

Islamabad:

The Permanent Water Resources Committee of the National Assembly was informed Thursday that the construction work of the Naulong dam in Balutchistan should start next year and that the project would be completed until 2031.

Predictive by Khalid Hussain Many, the Committee discussed the maintenance of budget proposals from the Ministry of Water Resources concerning the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for financial year 2025-26;

The committee expressed its dissatisfaction with the late submission of the Memoir for the reading of the members.

Syed Ali Murtza, Water Resources Secretary, informed the Committee on Budget Proposals for the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2024-25. The proposed PSDP 2025-26 describes the main financing priorities for current and new initiatives in water management, irrigation and generation of hydroelectric energy, he said.

The project director of the Naulong dam has informed the committee that the highly anticipated dam project on the Mula river in Balutchistan progressed towards implementation, marking an important step in the water and energy infrastructure of the region. Located about 395 km from Quetta, the project requires 4,282 acres of land, with an acquisition cost of 1.95 billion rupees, he said and added that the Balutchistan government has already published RS0, 9 billion and that the land acquisition process began after completing the completion of the necessary formalities.

The committee was informed that construction should start in February 2026.
