The Afghan Taliban absent from the debate on girls’ education

ISLAMABAD:

The Afghan Taliban government did not send its special envoy on Saturday to a global summit on the education of Muslim girls which was also attended by Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai.

The two-day conference hosted by Pakistan brought together education officials from dozens of Muslim countries, but without Afghanistan, the only country in the world where girls are banned from school.

Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui had extended a formal invitation to the Afghan interim government to participate in the conference.
