The APC calls for the abolition of the SIFC, 26th amendment, creating a new “charter of democracy”

Islamabad:

Opposition leaders have urged all political parties to meet to establish constitutional standards for relations between the parties, calling for a new democratic framework, in systemic reforms and at the end of political victimization and institutional overtaking.

A conference on all parties (APC), organized by Tehreek Tahafuz Ayin-E-Pakistan (TTAP), was organized at the residence of former senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar in Islamabad at the invitation of Mahmood Khan Achakzai. The conference brought together leaders from Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), the Pashtunkhwa Mill Awami (PKMAP) party, former senators, legal experts and civil society groups.

Estructions of a large -scale manifesto, the APC demanded the dissolution of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the 26th amendment, the immediate release of political prisoners, the lifting of media restrictions and the reference of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the International Criminal Court (CIC).

By reading the joint declaration, Khokhar condemned “the climbing of authoritarian practices” and demanded the immediate release of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, with accelerated hearings before the High Court of Islamabad and the Supreme Court.

He described the condemnation of dozens of PTI activists and opposition legislators one day earlier as a “dark day” in democratic history, affirming that “the hybrid regime wants the complete elimination of the opposition in the country”.

The delegates also called for the creation of a new “charter of democracy” reaffirming the supremacy of the 1973 Constitution, the rule of law, judicial independence and the creation of a impartial and autonomous electoral commission.

A declaration warned: “Following successive aggressions of the hybrid regime, the Constitution of Pakistan – including the fundamental rights of articles 8 to 18 years – and the parliamentary democratic system were made without meaning.”

The conference also demanded the abolition of the SIFC, describing it as unconstitutional and in violation of the 18th amendment. “SIFC is contrary to the spirit of the 18th amendment and the Constitution. We require its dissolution and cancellation of plans to transfer millions of land acres – acquired in the name of corporate agriculture – to Green Initiative Company. ”

Shouting civil-military interference, the APC accused the federal and defense institutions to undermine civil agencies, to erode public confidence in the application of laws and the judicial system. He demanded immediate reforms and a restoration of confidence in the judiciary.

Tackling judicial independence, the declared resolution: “After the 26th constitutional amendment, judicial independence was reduced to a slogan and is indeed nonexistent in Pakistan.

To reverse this, the conference called for the complete repeal of the amendment, the implementation of all interference and the establishment of an impartial system for judicial appointments. “To restore the sacred nature of the judiciary … The complete repeal of the 26th constitutional amendment is necessary,” he said.

On provincial autonomy, the APC demanded that mineral resources in Balutchistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan remain under local control, declaring any legislation or contract concluded without provincial consent as zero and not avenue.

The declaration also demanded the release of disappeared people in Balutchistan and the KP via appearances in court, the immediate dissolution of alleged private militias would have the support of the establishment and the release of political prisoners. He insisted on constitutional law at fair trials.

He also called for the abolition of restrictions on the pilgrims (Zaireen) of Balutchistan heading towards Iran and Iraq, mentioning the prohibitions of a violation of religious and human rights, and required greater local involvement in the management of border areas adjacent to Iran and Afghanistan.

Promoting transitional justice, the APC proposed a commission of truth and reconciliation modeled on South Africa, declaring: “Each institution or individual who, from the Foundation of Pakistan until today, has played a role against democracy, the rights of the people or the Constitution must voluntarily reach this commission and confess their crimes and their errors.”

The resolution highlighted the promotion of democratic culture and inter-parties consultations to slow down political victimization.

The concern expressed concerning the socio-economic situation of Pakistan, the APC stressed that around 45% of Pakistanis live below the poverty line, the employee purchasing power has decreased by 58%, overall unemployment is 22% and unemployment of young people exceeds 30%.

Finally, the opposition exhorted the KP government to comply with the verdict of the High Court of Peshawar reducing the Fata-Tof regulations and to withdraw its appeal to the Supreme Court.
