Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said on Friday that Pakistan and his armed forces were fully ready to defend the country’s sovereignty, borders and citizens.
“We reject in the strongest terms of the unilateral suspension of India in the Industrial Water Treaty,” said FO spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, during a new weekly, and called Water a “question of life and death” for Pakistan. The 1960 Treaty, negotiated by the World Bank, regulates water distribution between the two countries.
Shafqat Ali Khan added that Pakistan reserves the right to suspend all bilateral agreements with India, including the Simla agreement, due to New Delhi’s “irresponsible behavior”.
The warning follows a meeting of the National Security Council where Islamabad firmly condemned Indian threats and accused India of raping international law through extrajudicial killings and support for terrorism abroad.
Pakistan has also suspended all movements through the Wagah border, allowing returnees to cross until April 30. The visas issued as part of the Saarc program to Indian citizens were canceled, with the exception of Sikhs pilgrims.
Other measures include the declaration of Indian defense and diplomatic advisers Persona Non Grata, ordering them to leave Pakistan by April 30. Pakistan has also limited the staff of the Indian High Commissioner to 30 and suspended access to the airspace for Indian carriers.
Trade with India, including third -party trade, has been suspended.
Shafqat Ali Khan has also confirmed the recent high -level diplomatic commitments, including the visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Türkiye and meetings with Rwandan and Rwandan officials.
