Nissan Creative Box, the creative branch of the Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer, was recently struck by a ransomware attack and has lost a lot of sensitive data in the incident.
Given the nature of Creative Box’s work, stolen data could harm the company and pile up its competitive blade, if they are released in the wild, experts said.
The company is a specialized satellite design studio which is part of Nissan’s global design network. Established in 1987 to be a creative sandbox for emerging designers, where they can create daring concepts that generally move away from the design of consumer cars, it is often described as the “design reflection group” of Nissan, because it does not produce large volumes of visible work, but still retains an important role within the network.

NOW, Cyberness The company’s name was added was added to the Qilin data leak site, suggesting that it has undergone ransomware attack and data violation. The group claims to have stolen more than 400,000 files, totaling more than 4 TBs.
“The 4 TB of the data we copied include 3D design data, reports, photos, videos and various Nissan Automobiles documents,” the group wrote on its site.
“Although we do not yet intend to publish all this data, if Nissan refuses to recognize or ignore it.
Although personally identifiable information (PII) of thousands of people is precious for criminals interested in phishing, identity theft or wire fraud, this type of information can cause a different type of pain. For Mantas Sabeckis, information security researcher at Cybernews, the attack is “similar to steal an invention of the inventor”.
Qilin was among the most active ransomware groups in 2025 so far, as last year, Cyberness Affirms that the group has struck nearly 500 organizations, 401 which has been taking place since January 2025.
