The Backstreet Boys have been around for three decades, but a lot has changed during their time together, both in their personal and professional lives.
The band, comprised of AJ McLean, Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter and Brian Littrell, are preparing to return to the stage for their Las Vegas residency and have opened up about their feelings on the matter in a new interview.
The singers, who came together at a very young age, shared that one of the major changes between their past shows and now is prioritizing their health.
“I think everyone is different. I know for me personally, I just try to stretch completely and quietly, I do a quick little meditation and I have some weights that I’ll do a little bit of weight lifting and stretching and whatnot,” McLean said. People Magazineadding: “For a long time, I would look at all of us in the locker room, and maybe one of us was stretching, but for the most part, we weren’t.”
However, their physical warm-up now seems just as important as their vocal warm-up.
Carter chimed in to add another pre-show ritual: “We pray we don’t fall, we pray we don’t break an ankle, we get the lyrics, we pray we don’t burst.” [an] Achilles heel.
Despite time, some things never change and McLean noted that one of them is their circle time together. “We’ve always been in a circle, whether it’s just the five of us or whether it’s us and our team, our management, our families, our tight-knit team. Regardless, the five of us in a circle, it’s something we do unified,” he said.
The band has been together since 1993, with a two-year hiatus in between, but for the most part, their passion for making music together hasn’t dimmed over the years.
