The ban on NCAA trans athletes: ITHACA allows railings to compete with women

The Ithaca College of New York admitted to having left a trans athlete to compete in a Division III rowing competition during the weekend. The college allowed this despite the fact that the NCAA changed its eligibility policy between the sexes in February to prevent organic men from participating in female sports, in accordance with the executive decree of President Donald Trump addressing the issue.

The Trans athlete competed in the duals of Cayuga on Saturday, but only during the third event Varsity Eight, which is not taken into account in the qualification of the NCAA championship.

Ithaca provided a statement to PK Press Club Digital saying that the participation of the Trans athlete was due to a “misunderstanding” by coaches of what was considered an official NCAA event, and referred to the authorization of male practice players.

“It is the intention of Ithaca College to comply with all the rules of the NCAA. By virtue of these rules, the student-athlete in question has the capacity to be on the list and to participate in open practices and competition.

Ithaca finished first place in the first and second eight Warsity Eight events on Hamilton College and William Smith College, but finished in third place in the third event Varsity Eight in which the Trans athlete competed.

The NCAA provided a statement to PK Press Club Digital sending the violation of ITHACA’s policy.

“Policy is clear that there is no available derogation, and students who have been assigned to birth may not compete in a female team with modified birth certificates or other forms of identification. If the competition occurs, the team will be considered a mixed team and not eligible to compete with the female teams.

The NCAA has not indicated that the results of the event will be canceled or that ITHACA will face consequences.

Ithaca’s recent incident is the first known occurrence of a Trans athlete who has participated in a female competition since NCAA has changed its eligibility policy between the sexes on February 6.

“A student-athlete assigned to birth may not compete in a female team,” said the new policy.

The previous policy, which was implemented in 2010, allowed organic men to participate in the category of women after having undergone at least one year of treatment for the abolition of testosterone. This policy led to multiple prosecution against NCAA and its member schools for specific incidents involving the transplanting inclusion affecting biologically female athletes.

The Trump Administration is currently investigating two schools named in these prosecution, the University of Pennsylvania and the San Jose State University, for having enabled Trans Lia Thomas and Balaire Fleming athletes to participate in the female category.

The administration has already interrupted $ 175 million in federal funding in Upenn as a result to allow Thomas to participate in the women’s swimming team in 2021-2022.
