The basic corner network reaches the status of “stadium 1”, reducing the risk of centralization

Base, the popular layer 2 network of Cryptocurrency Exchange Coinbase (Coin), is now a Rollup “Stage 1”, said the company, setting up its path to full decentralization.

The transition to a roller “Stade 1” comes while the other layers have also reached this step, which makes these networks less dependent on centralized entities.

This decision means that the basis will now have a security council, a network of ten “independent entities, which we have chosen throughout the world,” said Tom Vieira, responsible for the base, in an interview with Coindesk. “These are people from the basic ecosystem and the wider Ethereum ecosystem”, which will help approve certain network upgrades if necessary, added Vieira.

In addition, the evidence of breakdowns is now without authorization on the basis, which means that anyone can check or check the condition of network transactions without relying on a central entity.

The realization of the so-called Stade 1 Rollup status comes from a blog article from the co-founder Ethereum Vitalik Buterin, where he classified the platforms according to their decentralization, with stage 1 based on certain goalkeepers or “limited training wheels”, and sacrificing on certain elements of decentralization for safety and speed.

Buterin originally shared this framework in 2022 when the Rollups began to become more popular. A few years later, he expressed his concerns about their security, so he wrote on X that he would only speak of a layer of layer 2 only if he had (at least) reached stadium.

The base was launched by Centralized Exchange Coinbase in August 2022, and since then has become the largest Rollup, according to L2Beat, with $ 11.72 billion locked in the protocol. From now on, the largest layer of layer 2 will depend less on Coinbase itself.
