- Several references to Lossless have been found in the latest office application code
- Better than the quality of the CD to “up to 24 bits / 44.1 kHz”
- No official announcement has yet been made
Sometimes the promises take some time to be delivered, such as Elon Musk’s promises in terms of complete self-limited (FSD) in Tesla cars. And in all honesty, I had deposited Spotify Hi-Fi, Spotify Supremium or Spotify Music Pro alongside this, Missions to Mars and the Hyperloop as exciting things announced, then never delivered. But it seems that I am about to be mistaken about this count.
The newly digested code suggests that the level without loss of Spotify is imminent, or at least it is close enough to the imminent to be cooked in the last Spotify office application.
Could Spotify Hi-Fi happen in the same way as Tesla’s mission in 2018 in March … didn’t do it?
Spotify audio without loss: what we know so far
According to technological expert Chris Messina, there are several references to “lossless” with capital L in the last code for the Spotify Desktop application.
References largely refer to promotional messages inside the application – “the best way to listen to in Lossless is with Spotify Connect” – and alerts such as “we are sorry, this piece is not yet lossless” or “seems that your Internet connection is struggling to take care of without loss at the moment”.
A message indicates the quality to which the service diffuses, promising the “best sound quality on Spotify for music up to 24 bits / 44.1 kHz”.
A similar message was found by the user of Reddit Bendotlc, who said he found the message “say hello to the best sound quality on Spotify. Listen to high fidelity music in up to 24 bits / 44.1 kHz” and that the functionality was already in the application but currently deactivated. Techcrunch has confirmed that this statement seems to be true.
The message “The best way to listen in Lossless is also Spotify Connect” because Apple Airplay 2 wireless streaming does not support higher codecs, so that iPhone users can be more familiar with the own Spotify wireless option.
Spotify has neither confirmed nor denied anything, but it seems that all the parts are put in place; Earlier this year, Spotify signed new agreements with the biggest record labels that seem to help prepare for the upper level. It should not only include better quality streaming, but also remixing music and AI features.
