Peshawar: Shakeel Ahmad Khan, the older brother of the former Jamaat-E-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer and former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, was shot dead in Swabi, police announced on Sunday.

Expressing sorrow on the tragic incident, Mushtaq said that his older brother had been shot in front of their house and described it as its strength and support. He also condemned the attack, appealing to the worst act of barbarism.

Providing details on the incident, the district police officer Swabi Muhammad Azhar said that Shakeel had been killed while trying to mediate a violent conflict.

According to police personnel, Shakeel was fatally killed by a neighbor during a violent altercation. He said that the incident had taken place when a dispute broke out between a father and a son in the neighborhood.

“Shakeel Khan was going to mediate and resolve the conflict when the suspect, identified as Kamran,” opened fire. Before that, Kamran would have killed his own father, “added the DPO.

The dismissal also left an injured person. The policeman also said that Kamran would be a drug addict and would have an unstable mental state.

DPO Azhar assured that the arrest of the suspect would soon be assured and that justice would be done.

The murder of Shakeel Khan aroused a widespread condemnation from political leaders and government representatives.

Ameer Jamaat-E-Islami Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman expressed his pain about the murder and urged the government to translate the perpetrators into court.

The chief minister of KP, Ali Amin Gandapur, also condemned the incident. Expressing condolences to Senator Mushtaq, the provincial CEO prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and the patience of the bereaved family.

Gandapur described the murder of Shakeel Khan as a tragic and swore that the attacker would soon be brought to justice. He assured that the culprit would receive strict sentence in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, the Governor of KP, Faisal, Karim Kundi, summoned a detailed report on the murder and ordered the authorities to ensure rapid justice. He reassured that the government was standing with Mushtaq Ahmad during this difficult period.

Shakeel’s funerary prayer is scheduled for 3 p.m. today in Ahad Khan, Swabi district, according to Mushtaq.
