- iOS and Android users can now use trendy chats in the ChatGPT app
- The feature allows users to move messages to new conversations
- Branched Chats originally launched on the web in September
When OpenAI launched Connected Chats on the web earlier this year, my messy conversations with AI became a thing of efficient beauty. Now, ChatGPT iOS and Android users can use the Branched Chats feature, which allows them to continue chats elsewhere, rather than having a lengthy discussion about AI.
Branching Cats initially arrived in September of this year, but it took OpenAI almost three months to integrate the feature into its iPhone and Android apps.
The new mobile feature allows users to quickly and long-press on a message and select “Plug into new chat,” opening the message outside of the current chat and allowing you to compartmentalize different conversations.
This may not seem like a big deal, but I’m constantly opening new chats on ChatGPT’s iOS app, so I can now have a more efficient workflow, just like on my PC version of AI.

Why did it take so long?
I’m increasingly frustrated with OpenAI’s inability to release features on all of its platforms at the same time.
When I learn about a new feature launching, I want to be able to access it everywhere I use ChatGPT, not just on a single device, and not based on specific criteria. OpenAI is a big enough company to update all of its platforms at once, and no one should need to wait three months to use a simple feature that’s been available for almost a quarter of the year.
Using trendy chats on iOS and Android is a great example of what I’m talking about. Why did the launch take so long? If OpenAI has a reasonable answer, I’m all ears; Otherwise, stop killing the hype around your features with terrible launch strategies, poor naming schemes, and boring live streams.
