- Chevrolet has teased the next generation of its popular Bolt EV model
- The vehicle should not arrive before 2027
- Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are struggling with sales
Chevrolet has brought social media to publish a number of teaser images that give some clues to what the North American public can expect from its redrawn bolt.
The highly appreciated bolt was among the first electric vehicles produced in mass to take off in the United States, with the first rented models for their impressive electric range, their ease of use, its masses of practicality and their relatively low price of stickers. As a proposal used, they also represent a phenomenal value for money.
That said, the Bolt has never managed to take care of a maximum speed of 54 kW, which made the longer travel difficult. Chevy seems to have addressed this in the next 2027 version, which will be among the first General Motors vehicles to display a standard NACS load port.
Teaser images also reveal a more sporty front fairing, rethought rear lights (a subject that disturbed the old owners) and a new design of striking alloy wheels, the brand indicating that more details will be revealed this fall.
At the end of 2016, the original bolt could be recovered for just under $ 27,000 before federal and state incentives on electric vehicles, which made it one of the cheapest ways to fly on a new EV in the United States. General Motors will be expected to try to maintain the prices of the new model.
Analysis: the United States needs more affordable EV
The news comes at a time when several other major car manufacturers have publicly declared that sales have been slow in North America.
Mercedes-Benz, for example, would have started to reduce the prices of its electric vehicles to stimulate customer demand and even arouse the deliveries of part of its equalization range to prevent the inventory of dealers to accumulate.
Porsche has also reduced its financial forecasts due to his exposure to President Trump’s raft of recent commercial prices, considering that the company exclusively manufactures its cars in Germany and ships them abroad.
The next Chevrolet Bolt arrives at a time when the American market desperately needs more affordable electric vehicle options, because Tesla could relax with its very cumulative price model and that the less Chinese Chinese competition has not yet taken off in the region.
The Nissan leaf remains among the cheapest, but this is also due to an imminent refreshment, while the little Kona Electric de Hyundai also proved to be popular thanks to its accessible price.
However, many of the closest rivals still cost $ 40,000, which, for many buyers, is still too much.
