A Karachi court on Tuesday awarded a deposit to the president of the Muhajir Qaumi-Haqiqi (MQM-H) Ahmed Muhajir movement in a criminal fire case linked to the fire of a truck in the city of Sarjani.

The additional judge of the district and the sessions (west) approved the bond against the bonds worth 1 million rupees, ordering the release of Ahmed if he is not desired in any other case.

Ahmed’s lawyer, lawyer Javed Chattari, argued that the allegations were baseless and that the police did not provide evidence connecting MQM-H to the incident.

The accusation argued, however, that the case was recorded at the Surjani city police station following the alleged criminal fire.

The court observed that the accusation had not presented sufficient evidence to oppose the deposit.

The decision comes in the midst of continuous legal proceedings against political figures in Karachi.

Earlier this month, the AFAQ was arrested as part of criminal fire cases in the regions of Karachi Awami and Landhi, where unidentified individuals set fire to freight trucks.

However, the court questioned the legitimacy of the accusations of terrorism invoked in the case.

During the hearing, the judge expressed his skepticism about allegations, pointing out: “How and why was the terrorism clause applied in this case?” He also declared that if the case lacked sufficient evidence, it could be rejected.

The court also took a critical position on political arrests, noting that the imprisonment of politicians often improves their popularity.

“A gentleman is already in prison and is not controlled, now another is invited to go out, and he refuses to do so,” said the judge.

The AFAQ Ahmed was arrested on February 11, following three cargo vehicles and an oil tanker was burnt down in different regions of Karachi, including Sharifabad and Surjani Town.

Police presented it to the court asking for a pre -trial detention, which was refused by the ATC.
