Rawalpindi:
President Asif Ali Zardari awarded the prestigious Nishan-E-Imtiaz Prize (Military) on General Michael E Kurilla, Commander of the Central Command of the United States (USCENTCOM), in recognition of his contributions to regional security and the strengthening of bilateral military links, the military media wing announced on Saturday.
According to a statement published by the inter-service public relations (ISPR), President Zardari presented the honor during an official investment ceremony in Aiwan-E-Sadr. General Kurilla has been recognized for its “exemplary service and its central role in the progression of sustainable military cooperation” between Pakistan and the United States.
“The visionary leadership of General Kurilla has contributed to promoting mutual understanding, to improve the collaboration of defense and to deepen cooperation against terrorism between the armed forces of Pakistan and USCENTCOM,” said the declaration.
The price reflects Pakistan’s appreciation of “unshakable support” of General Kurilla and highlights the growing depth of the military partnership between the two nations.
During his visit, General Kurilla met a senior Pakistani direction, notably President Zardari and the chief of staff of the army, Marshal Syed Asim Munnir. Discussions focused on regional security, military commitment to military and joint efforts to combat terrorism, the statement added.
Upon his arrival at the presidency, General Kurilla received an honorary guard of the tri-service.
