- Nintendo recently opened an investigation asking players their opinion on digital and physical games, but it is now closed
- A question asked about physical games featuring a digital download, and fans wonder if Nintendo will make changes to its division game key cards
- There were also questions about physical games and if players prefer to have physical or digital games
Nintendo briefly opened an investigation asking players their opinion on digital and physical games, suggesting that the company was looking for comments after the launch of Switch 2 and its game key cards.
As Eurogamer reported, on August 4, Nintendo organized an investigation to discover what its players’ base thinks of physical and digital games, with questions aimed at the number of switch games they bought for themselves and for others.
A question asked users: “In general, with regard to games for a Nintendo Switch system, do you prefer to buy games in physical format or in digital format?”
Another asked: “For which the following reasons would you plan to buy physical versions of Nintendo Switch Games?” With an option to answer with answers like “I like to collect physical games”, “it is easier to offer physical games to others”, and “Physical games offer a stronger feeling of property.”
For any reason, the survey has now been deactivated, but another question, asking physical games featuring a digital download, means that online fans wonder if Nintendo will plan to make changes to its game key cards.
“Filled Nintendo’s online survey and was very categorical to let them know that I really like my physical media and that I don’t want them to disappear,” said a Bluesky user. “I am not a big fan of Keycard’s new approach. Hopefully Nintendo has this feedback and people show up for physical media.”
The game key cards are a new form of physical switching games 2 which contain a download key but do not include full game data like other physical editions.
Once the player has downloaded the game, he can play it by inserting the game key cards in his console and starting it as a standard physical game.
Some games that offer these game key cards include Persona 3 Reload,, By default courageouslyAnd more, while new titles like Mario Kart World And Donkey Kong Bananza are standard physical game cards such as the original switch.
However, the new cards have become a subject of division, many fans fearing that the company would go towards a complete digital exit. Others suggest that since the game key cards do not contain the full game data, players do not have full ownership of their game after purchase.
In April, the main vice-president of product development and the publication of Nintendo of America, Nate Bihldorff, said that gaming key cards are “in the future” and that they will authorize more games on Switch 2, whatever the size.
