The provincial Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a high alert on the province’s scale in anticipation of a high increase in temperatures and a possible heat wave which should seize cities and plains from May 15 to 19.
According to a statement published on Wednesday, the director general of the PDMA, Irfan Ali Khan, ordered all the assistant commissioners of the Punjab to remain vigilant.
He asked that all the departments concerned, including district administrations, be placed on alert to mitigate the potential impact of extreme weather conditions.
A spokesperson for the PDMA said that an unusual temperature increase is scheduled for the coming days, temperatures should remain 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average until May 20.
The opinion also noted the possibility of a change in weather conditions towards the end of the forecast period. West winds are expected to enter the Punjab from the evening of May 19, potentially bringing precipitation to most districts between May 19 and 20.
The PDMA alert highlights the need for preventive measures by the public and the authorities to minimize the risks associated with the heat wave.
Citizens were advised to remain hydrated, limit exposure to direct sun and adopt the necessary precautions against heat strokes and other heat -related diseases.
In anticipation of emergencies, the district administrations were invited to ensure adequate preparation to respond quickly to any development during high temperature spell.
A couple dies in forest fires
While Mercury rises and the forests become more vulnerable to fires, a couple was burned to death on Tuesday evening while the raging forest fires engulfed the Hashham Khel Dab mountain forests with Marttung Tehsil from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, police.
USMAN SUB-DIVICATIONAL POLICE (SDPO) said that the victims, a man and his wife, were trying to save the firewood stacked near their homes when the flames reached their environment. In the process, they were trapped and mortally burned.
According to the sub-divisional forest officer (SDFO) Zahid Hussain from the Alpuri forest department, the fire came from fire bushes by the couple themselves near their residence.
However, the fire has become out of control due to intense and gusty winds, finally spreading to the surrounding forest and turning into a large -scale forest fire.
The deceased was identified as Hakim Zada and his wife, Hajiroon. According to officials, the fire has since completely died and the bodies of the victims have been recovered from the site.
Officials confirmed that remuneration would be granted to the closest parent of the deceased couple.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
The Khyber-Pakhtunkh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a heat wave notice for the province, providing for a significant increase in temperatures throughout the province from May 15 to 19.
Depending on the advice, daytime temperatures should remain 5 to 7 ° C above the seasonal average due to the hot and dry time.
