A court judged that the marriage of Dua Zehra and Zaheer Ahmed is valid, rejecting a petition which sought to declare their Nikah (marriage contract) as false.
The decision was issued by a judicial magistrate to Karachi East, rejecting the plea tabled by Dua Zehra herself. The Court said that if it requested the cancellation of marriage, it must approach the appropriate legal forum.
Zehra had already married Ahmed on his own will, after the two met on an online game platform. However, she then deposited a petition through her father to cancel the marriage.
The case aroused broad attention from the public in Pakistan, in particular after Zehra was initially placed in a shelter by ordinance of the court because of his young age. She was then authorized to return to her family.
