A district court and Islamabad sessions charged the senator from Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI) Azam Swati in a case concerning the controversial tweets that would have targeted sensitive institutions in the country, including the army.
The indictment was sent by the District’s additional judge and the Muhammad Afzal Majoka sessions on Saturday, which rejected the senator’s acquittal request. Swati, during the procedure, argued not guilty of the accusations.
The court summoned witnesses to pursuit for the next hearing and postponed other procedures until October 14.

The case against Swati was launched in November 2022, when the FIA cybercrime wing arrested it on tweets deemed offensive to the main army leaders. According to FIA, the PTI legislator had launched a “very odious campaign” on Twitter with the presumed intention of defaming and slandering state institutions.
The FIR was recorded by the FIA Cybercrime Reporting Center in Islamabad on a complaint filed by the technical assistant Aneesur Rehman. It included sections of the law on the prevention of electronic crimes (PECA) 2016 and the Pakistani penal code, such as article 131 (Mutiny), 500 and 501 (defamation), 505 (public mischief) and 109 (accounting).
The FIA argued that the tweets published by Swati were part of a malicious attempt to create disorders and discredit institutions with “Ultiges”.
In 2023 Swati was declared a delinquent proclaimed after failing to appear before the court, which subsequently issued non -reproducible arrest mandates.
