The former president of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and president of the Pakistani peoples’ party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, arrived in New York at the head of a high-level parliamentary delegation.
This visit marks the beginning of diplomatic awareness of Pakistan following recent climbing with India.
The delegation, including high-level political figures, notably Hina Rabbani Khar, Dr Musadik Malik, Khurram Dastgir Khan, Bushra Anjum Butt, Tehmina Janjua and Jalil Abbas Jilani, aim to present the perspective of Pakistan on recent military confrontation with India and the narrative counter-snow in the conflict.
During their stay in New York until June 2, the delegation should meet the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres and the President of the United Nations General Assembly Philémon Yang.
They will also inform members of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OCI) and will engage with the Association of United Nations correspondents.
After their commitments in New York, the delegation will perform in Washington, DC, on June 3, where they plan to meet US officials, including members of the Congress and representatives of reflection groups, to discuss bilateral relations and regional security problems.
This diplomatic initiative follows a cease-fire agreement between India and Pakistan on May 10, negotiated with the help of the United States, after a period of increased military tensions.
The visit to the Pakistani delegation underlines Islamabad’s commitment to peaceful resolution and proactive commitment with international stakeholders.
The delegation’s route also includes plans to visit European capitals to articulate Pakistan’s position on the regional situation and strengthen diplomatic links.
This concerted diplomatic effort reflects Pakistan’s strategy to meet the regional challenges by dialogue and international cooperation.
