Khairpur: The Sit-In demonstration by lawyers and members of civil society against the proposed construction of six channels of the Indus river has now entered its 10th consecutive day, causing a complete traffic stop between the Sindh and the Punjab on the national road.

The current demonstration attracted a large number of participants, lawyers and militants of the united civil society in their opposition to controversial channel projects.

The blockade of the national highway has led to the suspension of all vehicle movements between the two provinces in the last 10 days.

The current blockade has seriously had an impact on transporting essential products, including petrol and food, as trucks and trailers remain blocked. This has also led to an increase in the difficulties of shuttle and carriers.

The heavy container drivers blocked due to the demonstration indicated that their vehicle tires deteriorate due to the prolonged position.

The demonstrators promised to maintain their protests until a notification confirming the cancellation of the project is issued – despite the insurance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that no channel would be built without consensus.

Prime Minister Shehbaz and PPP President Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari held a meeting with high issues in Islamabad on Thursday after weeks of reception of troubles across the Sindh.

During a joint press conference, the Prime Minister announced that no canal would be built unless there is a consensus in the Common interest Council (CCI).

He confirmed that the next CCI meeting on May 2 would officially approve the agreement concluded with the PPP.

Events are staged at different times on the national road.

The Sit-in protest against the Channel Plan of the Industry river entered its eighth consecutive day near Mangrio Pump on the national road in Daharki, Ghotki.

Activists of nationalist parties and various political and social organizations continue to participate in the demonstration.

Meanwhile, a distinct demonstration of lawyers on the border of Sindh-Punjab near Kamoon Shaheed also reached his fifth day, still exacerbating the situation of traffic in the region. The demonstrators remain firm in their opposition to the channel project, demanding a review of its potential impact.

There does not seem to be an immediate end for the disturbance of traffic. The authorities have not yet announced to break through in negotiations aimed at solving the problem and cleaning the vital transport artery.
