Four years before representing the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, several members of this team – LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid and Bam Adebayo – participated in the agency during the national anthem to protest against racial injustice; Stephen Curry participated in 2021, a few hours after the Capitol riots.

In doing so, there were calls that the two lacked a country of which they did not actually want to be part. However, representing stars and stripes on the largest scene seems to say the opposite.

The quest for James and Davis for a gold medal last summer was presented in a new Netflix documentary, entitled “Court of Gold”, which followed the American, French, Serbs and Canadian teams in Paris.

The six -part doc was released last week.

Director Jake Rogal said that he had never discussed politics with any of the players, but he was certainly able to say that they had not taken their country into account, despite the problems they could have with the past.

“I think you are proud where you come from, even if you are not satisfied with the way things are,” said Rogal in a recent interview with PK Press Club Digital. “I think we are in a polarizing and tumultuous environment. And I think that no matter what, whether you like it, is where you come from, and you want to put your best foot forward to represent this.”

It seems that most NBA players of American origin would prefer the titles of the gold medals, but at the moment, it looked difficult to say. In the event of a crisis, especially in the semi-finals and in the finals, anyone could easily see how important these games were.

However, Rogal said that players found it impossible to compare the two phenomena.

“I do not know if they compare them, because we asked a similar question, and the answer that we recovered in a fairly coherent way was that these are two different experiences, so you cannot compare them,” said Rogal. “The NBA championship is an entire season, and you are building this, and it’s your work. The Olympic Games are for your country, and it’s a quick blow, and it’s as if it is the same sport, these are two different achievements … I don’t think they are comparable. I think they are both special in their own right for their own reasons.”

The Olympic Games were far away, let’s say, the stars break. The last minutes of the gold medal match, when Stephen Curry turned it on and brought the Americans to gold, culminated at 22.7 million viewers. It was the most watched gold medal match since 1996; However, this year’s All-Star game has been the second weaker since the start of the century, with an average of only 4.7 million viewers.

The NBA festivities were prevailing on the NHL Nations Tournament, while more than 9 million took the United States-Canada final (although fighting and political tensions have certainly played roles).

Nevertheless, given the emotions of these former Olympic Games, Rogal thinks, however, that the NBA players would be everything to follow in the footsteps of the NHL by introducing an international tournament for the stars break.

“I think that each time you include the country, it increases the stakes. It makes things more attractive. This immediately adds emotions. This adds competitiveness,” said Rogal. “So, I think that obtaining country competition in the mixture at any time is intelligent. Whether it is a stars match or an Olympic game, I think you will get a more competitive response if you add a country because it is so personal. I think it could be attractive to them.”
