The Punjab government allocated 24.4% of the non-development budget for financial year 2025-26 in the education sector.
The government allocated 148 billion rupees for the development of the sector, marking an increase of 137% compared to last year and 661 billion rupees for non-development expenses.
The allowance concerns the departments of school, superior literacy and non -formal education.
The budget includes allowances for the portable computers program and the Honhar scholarship program in addition to the supply of installations and the construction of hostels, libraries and computer laboratories.
The government has allocated 15 billion rupees for the scholarship program. Last year, the allowance was 4.5 billion rupees.
According to budgetary documents, it plans to distribute 112,000 laptops among students during the year thanks to an allowance of 15.1 billion rupees for the CM Punjab program for laptop. Last year, 37 billion rupees were allocated to the program and 40,000 students took advantage of far.
In the annual budget, the Punjab government introduced Punjab Education Initiative Management Authority (PEIMA) and allocated RS40 billion for the construction of new classrooms, computer laboratories, upgrading of school buildings and the supply of facilities.
The government also allocated 4 billion rupees for the outsourcing of public schools during the year. An allowance of 5 billion rupees was proposed to verify the abandonment of public schools.
The Punjab government has allocated 5 billion rupees to a project to set up “eminence schools” of international standard and 3 billion rupees to extend the establishment of centers of excellence in early childhood education.
He allocated 35 billion rupees for the Punjab Education Foundation to support low -income private schools to educate children in need.
In addition, 3.7 billion rupees were allocated to the Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTA) and RS6 billion for the CM school meal program, for which 7 billion rupees were spent last year.
The allowances include 2 billion rupees for the construction of eight associate colleges of the government for girls and the same amount for digital laboratories in public sector colleges.
An allowance of 25 billion rupees was proposed for higher education as well as 2 billion rupees for the construction of Mian Nawaz Sharif Engineering and Technology University in Kasur.
During the coming year, 5 billion rupees will be allocated to special education, while 1.8 billion rupees will be spent to provide transport services in special education schools.
