She visited the command and control center and asked for a timetable for the introduction of 1,500 new buses.

She ordered that the bus charging system be shifted to solar energy at the earliest and asked officials to identify new routes for green electric buses. She also ordered improved arrangements for increased passenger numbers and additional buses at places where commuters face long waiting times.

She ordered that carbon credits from the Green Bus project be claimed. She also praised the dedication shown by the electric bus teams in helping people with special needs. She said the launch of green buses had set passenger records across Punjab. The chief minister said the government was keen to launch metrobus projects in Faisalabad and Gujranwala at the earliest.

She added that electric buses provide the public with comfortable means of travel. She said that the Punjab government gives top priority to the comfort and safety of citizens, especially women and children.

She said intelligent transport systems enable faster and easier travel, while electric buses help reduce pollution and smog. “Providing clean, safe and modern public transport to the people of Punjab is our top priority,” she said.

Kausar Khan, CEO of Punjab Transport Company, said that more than 15.5 million passengers have so far traveled in electric buses across Punjab. More than 3.8 million women and more than 1.5 million students benefited from free trips, as well as 750,000 elderly people and 300,000 special people.

The Punjab Transport Company launched an initiative under which special sweet shops were established at e-bus stations to provide business opportunities to widows and divorced women. So far, 10 women have benefited from sweet shops at the new bus stands in Lahore.
