On Friday, the Punjab assembly unanimously adopted a resolution congratulating the chief of staff of the army (COAS), General Syed Asim Mnir for his elevation to the rank of Marshal in the field, praising his direction in obtaining remarkable success in the recent conflict with India.
The resolution, moved by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Shaukat Raja, congratulated the armed forces for their strategic excellence and their value.
He declared that the General Munir, by his wisdom and his military sense, actually thwarted each movement hostile by India, finally obtaining a decisive victory which strengthened the position of Pakistan on the world scene.
Despite the rare consensus between the lines of the parties on the resolution, the assembly procedure was overshadowed by the criticism of the opposition, which criticized the government for its visible lack of interest in the legislative activities of the session, in particular during a general discussion on the deterioration of the province of the province.
The opposition chief, Ahmad Khan Bhachar, firmly criticized the absence of ministers and civil servants of the Treasury benches, stressing that one MPA of the ruling party was present during the debate, while the official gallery remained entirely empty.
He expressed concern about increasing crime, accusing the government of negligence and not having held its promises to ensure public security.
“The law and the order collapsed. In just two days, 324 and 370 criminal incidents occurred in Lahore respectively. This proves the seriousness of the situation,” he said, citing recent police data.
At one point, a panel of presidents Sami Ullah Khan also expressed his dissatisfaction with the non-assistance of government representatives.
