- The EU confirms the cyber attack linked to the Ransomware hit airports in Europe
- Thefts were canceled and delayed in the disturbance
- More technological disturbances have also struck Dallas Fort Worth airport
Hundreds of flights across Europe were canceled and delayed after a “cyber -related disturbance”, an electronic recording of customers and a drop in luggage has been removed.
The EU cybersecurity agency EISA confirmed that the disturbance was linked to a ransomware incident, but did not reveal what particular pressure was to be blamed.
“The type of ransomware has been identified. The police are involved to investigate,” said a declaration.
Prolonged disturbances
The attack has targeted Collins Aerospace, in particular a product called Arinc Cmuse, a “solution for the processing of new generation of passengers for joint generation which allows several airlines to share registration offices and boarding positions at an airport rather than having their own dedicated infrastructure.”
The disturbances affected thefts from Heathrow, Brussels and Berlin, as well as training effects at Dublin and Cork airports.
Through the Atlantic, a pair cut off from fiber optic cables caused disturbances at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. These cables have had an impact on the primary and secondary paths of data that supports computer systems, radars and radio frequencies;
“Yesterday’s disturbance was caused by multiple failures of the TDM Data telecommunications service provided by Frontier – a local telecommunications company.
“L3harris surveillance, an FAA entrepreneur, failed to guarantee that dismissals in the system operated properly. This is a clear example of the obsolete FAA infrastructure and underlines the urgent need to modernize our air traffic control systems. ”
Although this has now been resolved, the FAA claims that this incident highlights “the critical importance of cleaning thousands of authorization and local obstacles” so that the industry can move from “aging analog systems to more resilient digital technology”, which is essential for the reliability and resilience of the national airspace.
