Rawalpindi:
The Department of Agency Control, Taxation and Narcotics has not achieved its objectives of property tax and professional tax recovery for financial year 2024-25 in the Rawalpindi region, because the ministry has only reached 48% of its objective, down 52% significant.
On the other hand, the motor branch of the department has successfully achieved its objectives in the categories of new recordings of vehicles and motorcycles, transfer fees and tokens taxes, reaching 150% of its remarkable income target in these areas. The collection of total income for the Rawalpindi region amounted to 680 million rupees.
Due to the complete failure of the ministry in the collection of national and commercial land taxes, professional taxes and luxury taxes, the director general of the excise ordered the cancellation of weekly Sunday vacation. From this Sunday and continuing until the start of the new exercise, the excise offices will remain open on Sunday to stimulate income recovery.
In a controversial decision to increase tax collection, the ministry began to issue revised land tax invoices by modifying the names on the previously taxed residential units.
Such a case implies lawyer Najma Malik, who indicated that despite the payment of 150,000 rupees in terms of property tax under his name, a new notice of 157,000 rupees had been issued under the name of her husband, based on signaling outside the house. She challenged the new opinion with the previous tax reception.
As part of its current repression against the defaults, the ministry sealed 241 property units and recovered RS3.1m in late taxes.
The Incis Inspectors were asked to leave their offices and to collect taxes directly on the ground.
However, with only 12 remaining days before the end of the exercise, the achievement of recovery objectives for property tax, luxury tax and professional tax seems to be more and more unlikely, which leaves the department far from achieving its financial objectives.
