On Friday, Rawalpindi police said that a father had shot his daughter after refusing to delete his account on the popular Tiktok video sharing app.
“The girl’s father had asked him to delete his Tiktok account. On the refusal, he killed her,” said a police spokesman AFP.
According to a shared police report with AFPInvestigators said the father killed his 16 -year -old daughter on Tuesday “for the honor”. He was then arrested.
The victim’s family initially attempted to “portray the murder as suicide” according to the city of the city of Rawalpindi, where the attack occurred, next to the capital Islamabad.
Last month, a 17 -year -old girl and an influencer of Tiktok with hundreds of thousands of followers online was killed at home by a man whose progress she had refused.
Sana Yousaf had accumulated more than a million followers on social media accounts, including Tiktok, where she shared videos of her favorite coffees, care products and traditional outfits.
Tiktok is extremely popular in Pakistan, partly because of its accessibility to a low -level population of literacy.
Women have found both audience and application income, which is rare in a country where less than a quarter of women participate in the formal economy.
However, only 30% of women in Pakistan have a smartphone against twice as many men (58%), the largest gap in the world, according to the Mobile Gender Gap Report of 2025.
Pakistani authorities on telecommunications have repeatedly blocked or threatened to block the application on what it calls “immoral behavior”, in the midst of reactions against sexual content.
In Balutchistan, where the tribal law governs many rural areas, a man admitted to having orchestrated the murder of his daughter 14 years earlier this year on videos of Tiktok who, according to him, compromised his “honor”.
