The scattered cybercriminals now target American airlines and transport after having moved its reticle from the British retailers, the FBI and the security companies warn.
The group previously struck Marks & Spencer, co-op and Harrods causing generalized system breakdowns and empty shelves.
The FBI’s opinion warns that it had “recently observed” cyber attacks which shared similarities with the aforementioned attacks, with unit 42 of Google and Palo Alto Networks, echoing the warning of the offices.
Target scattered spider switches
Group members include young English -speaking adults who are financially motivated. The group uses phishing and social engineering techniques to access the networks where they wreak havoc, fly data and deploy ransomware. There is no structure organized in the group, the members being part of a wider organization known as “com”.
The FBI warning follows two cyber-incidents affecting airlines this month. Hawaiian Airlines reported a cyber attack on June 26, and Westjada of Canada published an opinion that he had detected a cyber-incident on June 13. The group may target other organizations directly, or impose third parties in the supply chain to access.
“Anyone in the airline ecosystem, including trusted sellers and entrepreneurs, could be in danger,” warns the FBI declaration.
“The FBI is actively working with aviation and industry partners to combat this activity and help the victims. Early reports allows the FBI to get involved quickly, to share information in the industry and to prevent other compromises. If you suspect that your organization has been targeted, please contact your local FBI office, “the statement said.
In May 2025, the GOOGLE (TIG) threat group also warned that Spander Spider was starting to concentrate in the United States.
