The Federal Constitutional Court has decided to adopt the Rules of the Supreme Court 2025 for the practice and procedure of the court. A meeting with Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan in the Presidency made the decision: The Express PK Press Club learned.

The full court ruled that cases before the FCC would be heard by a panel of at least two judges, while cases against the decision of a two-judge panel would be heard by a panel of at least three judges.

Supreme Court lawyers will be eligible to appear before the FCC, the meeting also decided. The attorney general and attorneys general of the four provinces were informed of the decisions.

The adoption of the Supreme Court rules clarifies how the newly created FCC will structure its proceedings. The rules, drawn up by a committee formed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, were updated earlier this month.

The committee deliberated with the Bar Council of Pakistan and the Supreme Court Bar Association to modernize the 1980 rules, presenting the final draft before the full court. The 2025 rules include 60 new provisions while five obsolete provisions have been removed. The new set of guidelines aims to modernize and digitalize the legal system, bringing procedural clarity to the judiciary, according to the Supreme Court.
