- The reports say that the first DJI 360 drone will weigh less than 250 g
- It would be based on 8K camera technology similar to the OSMO 360
- The launch is tilted before the end of 2025
DJI should largely publish a new ultra -light drone this year, with the highly anticipated DJI Mini 5, apparently preparing for a launch in 2025. But if we believe the recent online rumors, the company could actually announce two models by the end of the year – one being a brand new type of drone based on a 360 camera.
We have already officially confirmed that antigravity prepares its own light 360 drone powered by the technology of the Insta360 camera – although via a teaser, with remaining details unknown for the moment. And, if a report on notebookcheck is correct, it will have a competitor from the start.
The report details rumors coming out of China who claim that DJI is working on an equally light drone (under 250 g, to ensure that it remains in the Sweet Spot-Dodging) which will also offer a 360 8K video recording, using a three-axis mechanical cardan to hold its camera.
The camera, apparently, is built on foundations similar to the equipment inside the recently published OSMO 360 DJI, the first 360 action camera in the company.
An OSMO 360 steering wheel?
The OSMO 360 is an excellent 360 camera (I know because I tested it for our DJI OSMO 360 criticism), using two 1/1.1 inch married sensors with two ultra-light Fisheye objectives and a herd of intelligent software stuff to create 8K panoramic videos with a minimum of effort.
These videos can then be cropped in DJI’s compannels (either the DJI Mimo mobile application or the DJI Studio Desktop application) before being exported for sharing or use in other publishing programs.
A flying version of the OSMO 360 which manages to stay less than 250 g seems almost too beautiful to be true, especially if it will have two large sensors on board. I suspect that we can see smaller sensors on the drone, to keep the weight below this brand of 250 g.
If the reports are correct, Dji seems to have been busy a few months to come. The company should also publish the DJI MIC 3, a new model in its range of popular wireless microphones, as well as the DJI Osmo Nano, a small modular action camera, and the DJI Romo, the very first robotic vacuum cleaner of the company.
