Balakot:
Strong rains, sudden floods and cloud explosions seriously affected the tourist industry in the Kaghan Valley. The tourist flow in July and August remained negligible, leaving popular destinations such as Shogran, Kaghan, Naran and Babusar Top deserted. Tourism companies are faced with heavy losses.
The valley, already vulnerable due to climate change, is witnessing a rapid glacial cast iron this year. While June saw unusually low precipitation, July and August brought continuous showers, causing landslides, sudden floods and overflowing streams that paralyze tourism. Consequently, tourism activities have not yet recovered, leaving local businesses in distress.
Experts warn that the impacts of climate change could last years unless a complete strategy is developed. A timely measurement measures are essential, in particular a strict action against illegal constructions along the banks, to eliminate obstructions from water flow and alleviate future disasters.
