British Foreign Minister David Lammy praised Pakistan and India for defusing tensions and accepting a cease-fire during meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Darrier Ishaq Dar during his official visit to Islamabad while declaring that “the conflict does not serve anyone of interest”.
Prime Minister Sharif met Lammy on Friday in the Prime Minister’s House, expressing his satisfaction with positive impetus in Pakistani-UK relations and reaffirming his commitment to further improve bilateral cooperation in all sectors.
Reiterating the strong commitment of Pakistan to the cease-fire agreement, the PM noted that Pakistan had demonstrated immense patience and retained in response to the baseless accusations of India and the uninsured aggression. He stressed that Pakistan’s actions in the exercise of his right to self -defense were both proportional and targeted.
Stressing the unshakable determination of Pakistan to defend its sovereignty and its territorial integrity, the PM Sharif underlined the country’s lasting desire in matters of peace in South Asia. He also expressed his best wishes to His Majesty King Charles III and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

This marks the first visit of a British Foreign Affairs Secretary in Pakistan since 2021. A declaration from the British High Commissioner in Islamabad noted that Lammy welcomed the ceasefire, stressing that peace and security form the basis of the United Kingdom relations with Pakistan.
Stressing the importance of regional stability, Lammy praised the efforts to end the longtime hostility between Pakistan and India, calling for the last “painful” weeks.
“The past few weeks have been difficult for British Pakistani and British Indians. We particularly welcome the ceasefire between British Pakistani and British Indians,” he added.
Referring to increased tensions after the Pahalgam incident, he said that the United Kingdom had done everything possible to defuse the situation. “India and Pakistan have agreed to stop hostilities, and the cease-fire remains in place.”
Reaffirming the UK’s commitment to counter-terrorism and to ensure the continuation of the ceasefire, Lammy underlined the long-standing cooperation between the United Kingdom and Pakistan to promote regional peace and stability.
Earlier, DPM DAR met Lammy in Islamabad, warmly welcoming the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, according to a press release from Foreign Office.

DAR extended a cordial reception in Lammy during his first official visit to Pakistan. The two leaders had detailed discussions on recent developments in South Asia, with a particular accent on the Pakistani-Indian ceasefire.
The DPM informed the British actions of foreign affairs of the unlike and aggressive actions of India, condemning them as violations of the sovereignty of Pakistan, international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of interstate relations. He argued that Pakistan had exercised his right to self -defense under article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations.
According to the spokesperson for Foreign Office, Dar appreciated the constructive and positive role of the United Kingdom in reducing tensions. The two parties highlighted the importance of supported detention and dialogue to ensure long -term peace and stability in the region.
The meeting also discussed bilateral relations, the two parties expressing satisfaction of progress in commercial partnerships, economic cooperation and development. Dar praised the precious support of the United Kingdom in the fields of education, health care and climate resilience.
The two leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to improve cooperation in the fields of mutual interest, in particular climate change and sustainable development.
They have reiterated their determination to strengthen historical and long-standing ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, built on mutual respect, shared values and strong connections of people.
