Chandler Jones, a former large receiver who played for the Spartans of the State of San Jose and later for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, died, the school announced on Monday.
He was 33 years old.
Jones was identified as the victim in a pedestrian accident on the Marina Freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday, Mynewsla.com reported, citing the office of the medical examiner. The authorities said Jones had been struck and killed by a driver in a Toyota Rav4.

The incident occurred at 2 am. Jones was declared dead on the scene.
“Forever in our hearts, # 89”, wrote San Jose State Football on his X account. “In the Receiver’s love memory and large Spartan coach, Chandler Jones.”
Jones, originally from Los Angeles, ended his collegial career with the Spartans as a leader of all time of the school in receptions (248) and Touché (31). He was the only player in school history to record at least 50 receptions in each of his four seasons with the Spartans.

He returned to the state of San Jose in 2017 as a defensive assistant.
“I have trained for 50 years, and I trained a lot of people and there are very special, and he is at the top of the agreement,” said wide Exanse Jose receiver, Terry Malley, at San Francisco Chronicle. “He brought a dynamism every day, he was passionate about it, and he was a great teammate. … Chandler was a very, very good human being.

“If you go through the 105 guys who were part of our team, nobody looks like anything bad about Chandler. I think they all wanted them to attack as they did.”
