An ex-Baseball player in the major league blames a former opponent for his end-of-career injury.
Darin Ruf played the first goal for the Brewers Milwaukee on June 2, 2023, in a match against the central rival of the NL Cincinnati Reds. He did not know that it would be the last match of his career.
During the third round, Ruf was pursuing a pop-up in nauseating territory when his knee crashed at the end of the Tarp roller. RUF severely cut the knee and drink from the ground with the help of a coach.

The RUF complaint indicates that the end of the Tarp roller was made of pointed metal and had no protective cushioning or cap. The television broadcast of the game said there was an “important piece of metal … which does not give much”.
Ruf has made the list of 60 days injured and has never played in major leagues again.
His initial injury, apart from the laceration, was considered an unpleasant fracture of his kneecap. But, according to the complaint of RUF, he underwent “permanent and substantial deformations to his knee”.
“It didn’t need to happen,” Ruf said in a statement. “I want it not to happen. Players should not have to worry about hidden dangers like that on a major league field.”

“It was an obvious and avoidable risk,” said Tad Thomas, lawyer for Ruf, in a statement announcing the trial. “There are basic security protocols that each MLB team should follow. Leaving an unattractive metal roller on the edge of the field is inexcusable.”
The Reds did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
The situation is similar to that of Dustin Fowler. During his beginnings in the major league in 2017, he injured a knee in Chicago after meeting an electric box while pursuing a pop fly. Fowler, who would have triggered the next round for his first appearance in the majors, continued the White Sox for negligence.
The Yankees exchanged him about a month after the injury of Sonny Gray, and the first success of the Fowler MLB came against Gray next year.
RUF, 38, played in the majors from 2012 to 2023 with the Philadelphia Phillies (2012-16), San Francisco Giants (2020-22, 2023), New York Mets (2022) and Brewers (2023). He struck. 239 with a basic percentage of .329, 67 circuits and 205 points produced in 582 career games.

At the time of the injury, Ruf played in his 11th match with the Brewers after playing in nine games during his second visit with the Giants. He had been appointed for assignment by San Francisco before joining Milwaukee.
