“Many people are often afraid of reporting this type of driving for a number of reasons,” said Scott Healy, the first deputy prosecutor of clackamas, in a statement.
“Hopefully that the victim’s strength and courage in this case will give others the courage to manifest themselves in circumstances where sexual assault has occurred. The trouble the accused received today should recall that this type of conduct will not be tolerated in our community and that the County County Bureau will always work hard to keep the offenders responsible and make justice to the victim.”
The former NBA player, Ben McLemore, was found guilty of rape after an 11 -day trial on Oregon
The incident occurred in Lake Oswego, Oregon, in October 2021, when McLemore was identified as a suspect by the authorities after the complaint of the woman.
The woman appeared on video on Wednesday, reading a statement aloud for the court.
“It has been the longest for almost four years of my life. I never imagined that the fact that reporting in 2021 would lead to such a difficult and long journey,” she said by ESPN. “In recent years have often felt a weight that I had to hang behind me, a constant reminder of the trauma that I could not work fully because there was no end in sight. I understand now, at a deep level, why so many victims hesitate or never report what happened to them.”

In February 2024, a great jury of the County Clackamas listened to evidence in the case, which included the testimony of the woman affirming that McLemore had attacked her. McLemore was arrested two months later by American marshals.
During the trial, Healy told the jury that the woman passed out on a living room sofa around 2 am after drinking a lot. She resumed partial conscience the next morning, when McLemore penetrated her sexually and then had sex with her.
The Mclemore lawyer team challenged the assertions, saying that she had initiated sexual contact and agreed. Lawyers also said that the woman was sober enough to consent to sexual contact.
McLemore, a Kansas product, played nine seasons in the NBA, five with the Kings of Sacramento, who took it seventh in the general classification of the NBA 2013.
He rebounded around the league towards the end, playing for the Grizzlies of Memphis, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and, finally, the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2021-222 season.
