The former leader of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Shuhei Yoshida, congratulated Microsoft’s multiplatform thrust, calling it “a victory” for PlayStation users.
This comes from a recent interview with Sacred Symbols + (via VGC), where Yoshida said that the continuous strategy of the company to publish more Xbox games for platforms like PS5 and Nintendo Switch allows players to discover titles to which They did not have access before.
“I think it is a victory for the owners of PlayStation, they did not have access [to those games] Before, “said Yoshida.
He continued, saying that PlayStation becoming “the minority platform” was his “nightmare” when he became the leader of the Playstation first part. He explained that it “would be impossible to maintain the development of the first party because the best creators would leave”.
“They are not only creatives, they are also business people, they also want their games to reach the most public,” he said. “It is very natural if a platform is the minority and if I could publish a game on the minority platform only, it is not durable. It was the nightmare.”
“Looking at the installation base of Xbox equipment, it is a little natural to understand what they are doing, and it’s quite simple,” added Yoshida.
The company’s multiplatform push started at the start of last year, which saw Hi-fi rush, Thieves’ sea, Pentiment, and founded Make their way to PS5, the last two also obtaining a version of Nintendo Switch.
In November 2024, the boss of Xbox Phil Spencer confirmed that he wanted to publish more games on other platforms. Among the titles already announced, there are tastes Indiana Jones and the big circlewhich was launched for the first time on December 9 for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC, and should be launched on PS5 in spring 2025.
