The former youth player of the Arsenal, Billy Vigar, died at 21 years after a brain injury

A former Arsenal youth player died after suffering an important brain injury in an English non -league match on Saturday.

Billy Vigar collided with a concrete wall during the match in Wingate and Finchley while trying to prevent a ball from the game, by ESPN.

The 21 -year -old was placed in an induced coma and underwent surgery on Tuesday in the hope of helping his recovery. However, Vigar died Thursday from his injuries.

“It is with great sadness that the Chichester City Football Club must confirm the adoption of Billy Vigar,” said the club for which he played in a press release on social networks.

“We ask that the private life of his family is respected at the most difficult moment. Rest in peace Billy. Forever in the heart of all at the Chichester City Football Club.”

Vigar’s death led Chichester City to postpone his planned match against Lewes on Saturday.

His family published a statement through the club: “The answers to the original update show how much Billy was thought and loved in sport. His family is devastated that it happened while he was doing the sport he loved.”

Vigar joined Arsenal’s Academy in 2017 and signed a professional agreement with the club in 2022.

“Everyone in Arsenal is devastated by the new shocking that the former graduate of the Billy Vigar Academy died,” Arsenal said in a statement. The club described it as a “powerful and versatile striker”.

“All our thoughts are with his family and loved ones right now. Rest in peace, Billy.”

The first first Isthmian League division, the semi-professional league in which Chichester City plays, announced that a moment of silence would be observed before all the matches this weekend. The league players will also wear black armbands to honor Vigar.
