The Ministry of the Local Government of Punjab has simplified the laws concerning family files, birth and death certificates and their registration.
The birth and death registration period has been extended, and birth registration for children up to seven years will now be free – this offer is valid until May 31, 2026.
The authority to manage delayed registrations has gone from subordinate personnel to senior officers, including assistant directors.
The obligation of a judicial decree for late registration was abolished. Following the approval of the legal secretary and the secretary of the local government, the new rules were officially informed in the Punjab Gazette. According to the notification, the registration of birth and death will be entirely free during the first year. After seven years, RS200 birth registration fees apply.
For Pakistanis abroad, the costs will be RS1,000; For foreigners, RS2,000. The fees for the registration of deaths after seven years will be Rs1,000.
The correction and modifications costs will be RS500, and copies will cost RS200. The costs for computerized copies have been abolished.
The new regulations, with immediate effect, aims to make the registration processes more accessible and user -friendly.
The updated rules stipulate that the registration of children up to a year will fall under the authority of the secretary to the Council of the Union concerned, while children up to seven years will be under the jurisdiction of the deputy director.
Registration for people over seven years will be managed by the deputy director. Previously, the national database and the registration authority (NADRA) has developed a mobile application to facilitate online recording of births, deaths and changes in the matrimonial state.
The application, initially launched in Punjab, allows citizens to record home life events.
Biometric verification is made available in all union councils in the province.
