The Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, announces plots of 80 yards for the victims of the collapse of the Lyari building

Sindh’s main minister Sharjeel Memon said on Tuesday that it was not possible for the provincial government to provide housing to all displaced residents after 11 buildings were classified as dangerous and evacuated.

Speaking in a news segment broadcast on a private television channel, the minister said that around 740 buildings across the Sindh had been declared dangerous, with at least 51 classified as extremely dangerous. Eleven buildings from this last category have been evacuated, he added.

However, the provincial government would offer temporary housing to certain families, similar to the previous efforts undertaken for the floods and victims of COVID-19, said Memon.

There will be no silence on this subject, and the managers will be held responsible

Compensation plots

Meanwhile, the governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, announced Tuesday that plots of 80 yards will be given to families affected by the collapse of the Lyari building.

Addressing the media of Karachi, Tessori said: “I arrived in Karachi today and, without wasting time, I came to Lyari. I will send all my suggestions concerning this tragedy in the government of Sindh through a letter”.

Tessori stressed that the collapse of the building was not a minor incident. “There will be no silence on this issue, and those responsible will be responsible,” he said, recognizing the efforts of the ministers of Sindh Ghani and Nabil Gabol so far.

He urged the provincial government to provide rent and resettlement of six months in the same area for evacuating residents from the 11 dangerous buildings.

Tessori assured that the Governor’s house would remain active to ensure the support of victims and offer essential resources such as ration and employment possibilities.

The governor extended his support for assaulted families, many of whom are from the Hindu community, and informed that a line of assistance, 1133, was created for help.
