The great opposition alliance accused the government of having tried to block its planned conference, insisting that the event will take place as planned tomorrow, despite the obstacles, said Express News.
The leaders of the Alliance, including Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Omar Ayub and others, held a press conference after a crucial meeting to discuss the situation.
Abbasi revealed that the Alliance was trying to secure a place for last week’s conference. He said that at the start, the first place was canceled, followed by a second, with the explanation that the national cricket team had to pass.
He joked for cricket, the whole country is often suspended. He added that when the Alliance moved to a third site, the hotel administration intervened, threatening to close the market if the conference continued.
Despite these challenges, Abbasi said that the conference had taken place, with journalists, lawyers and other political figures. He stressed that the event focused only on the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law, and that no inflammatory remark was made.
He criticized the government for being intimidated by a simple conference. He stressed that the event was held in the interior, not in public, and yet the government was still frightened.
He also revealed that some people had threatened the hotel management, warning them to close the hotel if the conference was taking place. The alliance demanded the written confirmation of these threats.
Abbasi has described government’s actions as a sign of weakness, wondering how a government spending billions in advertisements may be afraid of a conference.
He deplored that a government formed by two major political parties is now afraid of democracy, despite his claims to support him. He concluded by saying that the conference would be held the next day, declaring: “It is our right”.
Omar Ayub, the head of the opposition, also spoke during the press conference, explaining that the conference had been organized to discuss the preservation of the constitution of Pakistan and the future of the country. He stressed that the participants were all Democratic individuals, determined to strengthen Pakistan.
He also revealed that the administration of the hotel had admitted to be under pressure, although they did not disclose the source. Opposition leaders insisted on a written confirmation of this pressure.
Ayub claimed to send a direct message to the government, warning that if such interference occurred, he would approach the chief judge of Pakistan.
He also addressed the criticisms directed against him for having discussed questions related to Balutchistan, suggesting that if the Balutchistan government was controlled, it should take action to solve the problem publicly.
