- Xbox Portfolio GM advises indie studios to create their games for current Xbox and PC consoles to be ready for Project Helix
- Chris Charla states that “this guarantees that they will have a native version of the Helix project”
- He added that the Helix project will be easier for developers to use.
General Manager of Xbox Portfolio and Programs Chris Charla said Project Helix would be easier for developers to use, but advises studios to prioritize developing their games for current-gen and PC.
“We’re working hard so developers can make an Xbox version in the future and it will work on their Project Helix console, PC, and streaming and cloud surfaces like smart TVs and other devices,” Charla said.

He went on to say that he hopes to be able to offer the same support that Xbox offers to developers wanting to make games for Project Helix. For example, support for implementing Xbox APIs, using backend systems, business processes, sharing marketing data, etc.
Charla also advised developers, especially indie studios, to make games for Xbox Series
“Someone looking to be next-gen ready with Xbox should be developing for the Xbox console today, developing for Xbox on PC, and supporting Xbox Play Anywhere,” Charla said.
“This will put you in pole position for the next generation and ensure that your Xbox game on PC runs natively on Project Helix. The exact specifics may differ by developer and game. In many cases, if you’re coming from an original Steam or PC version, it may be smarter to start with the Xbox for PC version, then use that as a base for the Xbox console version.
“Of course, we will have more details on how developers can take advantage of specific Project Helix hardware features in the coming months, but this ensures that they will have a native version of Project Helix.”
Project Helix was revealed earlier this month and alpha versions of the hardware are expected to be in the hands of developers starting in 2027.
Microsoft also shared some specifications of the console, which will offer next-gen performance, including a custom AMD-based SOC, co-designed for the next generation of DirectX and FSR, and improved ray tracing performance.
