A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) arrived in Pakistan to carry out a complete examination of governance and corruption issues.
According to sources, the IMF team will start meetings with Pakistani officials on Monday.
The main objective of the mission is to provide technical assistance to improve the reform capacity of Pakistan. Discussions will focus on strengthening governance and resolution of corruption problems, with the aim of supporting Pakistan reform efforts.
Sources indicate that the IMF team will examine the budgetary proposals for the financial year 2025-2026 and will engage in monitoring negotiations concerning technical support for governance issues.
The delegation will also discuss measures to improve tax revenue, control public spending and finalize the proposals for the upcoming budget with officials of the Ministry of Finance.
The federal budget for the year 2025-2026 should be presented to the National Assembly during the first week of June.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently congratulated the Pakistani government for its budgetary policy efforts, in particular to reduce public debt, control inflation, improve equity and maintain price stability. This recognition was published on March 26.
In addition, last month, the IMF concluded an agreement with Pakistan for a new arrangement of $ 1.3 billion and agreed with the first examination of the rescue program in the process of 37 months, according to the IMF declaration.
