The International Olympic Committee (CIO) confirmed Tuesday that Russian teams will remain banned from 2026 Winter Olympics, Officially close the door of NHL Alex Ovechkin star.
The IOC has published a statement according to the comments of the International Federation of the Federation of ice hockey (IIHF) Luc Tardif.

“The recommendation of the executive board of the CIO of March 2023 with regard to the teams of athletes with a Russian passport remains in place,” said the press release, via Reuters.

“It is based on the fact that, by definition, a group of individual neutral athletes cannot be considered as a team. We note that the IIHF has confirmed that it would follow this recommendation.”
Speaking on the last day of the IIHF world championship this weekend, Tardif was asked about the possibility that the Russian athletes participate in the next winter matches. He said that if a final decision had not been made, the conviction was that the IOC would continue to maintain its ban.

“Recently, they asked us to send them a schedule without Russia, that’s where we are,” said late, via Thehockeynews.com. “The official declaration is pending, but the IOC told us that they inform the Russian Olympic Committee that they do not participate in the Olympic Games.”
The ban was put in place after the complete military invasion of Ukraine which started in February 2022, four days after the closing of the Beijing Winter Games. Some selected athletes were able to participate in the Paris Olympic Games as a neutral adhesive following a verification process.

Earlier this month, four Russian artistic skaters were approved for qualifying by the International Skating Union to compete as neutral ads. No Russian skater has been approved to compete in the pairs and ice dance disciplines.
